Trainee Welcome Day 2019

Saarland’s steel industry welcomes 159 new trainees

The new training year is beginning: A total of 159 young people start their careers today at Saarstahl AG and AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke. At Saarstahl, 76 trainees are beginning a new phase of their lives: 68 in technical and industrial fields and 8 in business-related fields. Dillinger has recruited 83 trainees this year, with 78 of them in technical and industrial fields and 5 in business-related fields. The group includes 22 women and 12 participants in the intercultural BEST 2.0 career-entry program.⃰ Saarland’s steel industry now employs 563 trainees (Dillinger: 273; Saarstahl: 290) across all training years.

Saarstahl AG invests 17 million euros in the Homburg site of its Saar-Blankstahl subsidiary

A pioneering construction site at the Saarstahl subsidiary in Homburg: work is now underway to expand the heat treatment capacity at Saar-Blankstahl. With the decision taken by the Supervisory Board at the end of 2018 to expand the annealing capacity of its subsidiary, Saarstahl AG is responding to an expected increase in worldwide demand for heat-treated bar material and to demand for higher-quality steels, which also play an important role in electric mobility. The company is investing 17 million euros in this project.

Sustainable steel production at the Saar: Dillinger and Saarstahl are for the first time using hydrogen in blast furnaces to reduce carbon emissions

Dillinger and Saarstahl are taking a new approach to reducing carbon emissions and are for the first time using hydrogen in the two blast furnaces of ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar mbH (ROGESA). An investment volume of €14 million will be used for an innovative system that significantly reduces carbon emissions at the Dillingen site.

Key figures for the business year 2018 for the Saarstahl Group

The Saarstahl Group looks back on a successful business year 2018 which is characterized by a further increase in sales revenues and favourable figures in the financial result. Tim Hartmann, Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer explained the figures for the year saying, “Thanks to high demand in our core segments of bar steel and wire rod, the group turnover increased to a record level compared with the previous year due to a positive development in revenue and in spite of a slight decrease in shipping volumes. In the last few months of the year, there was a decline in demand due to economic factors but sales remained on a high level throughout the year“.

Reinhard Störmer selected Chairman of the Montan-Stiftung-Saar – Martin Baues new Chief Technical Officer of Saarland’s steel industry

During the respective board meetings in March, Mr. Reinhard Störmer was selected Chairman of the Curatorship for the Montan-Stiftung-Saar. Mr. Störmer succeeds Dr. Michael H. Müller, who died unexpectedly. Reinhard Störmer has been a member of the Curatorship since 14 November 2010 and has been Deputy Chairman of the Curatorship since August 2016.

We were deeply shocked and saddened to receive news today of the sudden death of Dr. Michael H. Müller, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Montan-Stiftung-Saar and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke and Saarstahl AG. We extend our deepest condolences to his family.

100 million euros investment at Saarstahl

Work to complete the new continuous casting system S1 is on schedule

Since the middle of November 2017, construction work on the new continuous casting system S1 in the steel plant of Saarstahl has been running at full speed. The project represents a total investment of 100 million euros and requires that all tasks be coordinated with the greatest precision to ensure that the system can go into operation according to schedule at the end of 2019.
